About Us

In 1964 a young priest by the name of Father A. Paul White arrived at Gate of Heaven and founded the Gate of Heaven Catholic Youth Organization. Which, since its inception has provided a positive athletic, social and spiritual alternative to the youth of South Boston.

6 Boys Teams – 3rd to 5th Grade 5 Girls Teams - 12 & Under 8 Boys Teams – 6th to 8th Grade 5 Girls Teams - 17 & Under 3 Boys High School Teams 1 Girls High School Team Boys & Girls Instructional Leagues – 6 & 7 Years Old 30 Coaches – 25 Assistant Coaches – 8 Commissioners – 1 C.Y.O. Director

We also have 13 traveling basketball teams that compete throughout the Archdiocese of Boston. We allow any house league player to play travel who wants to play. We will add a team rather than cut players from travel teams. Our boy’s teams have won five State Championships and two New England Championships within the last 6 years. Our girls have won 2 state championships the last 2 years.It should also be noted that during the summer months we have a girls’ softball team, two baseball teams and three basketball teams making us the largest and only year round sports program in South Boston.

There are no paid positions in the organization. The Athletic Director, Commissioners, Coaches and Assistant Coaches are all volunteers serving without salary.

In 1970 under the tutelage of Father White the Gate of Heaven C.Y.O. basketball program started.
